Teacher Elf is free.

Today's pricing

There is no paid tier. No premium features behind a paywall. No “Plus” or “Pro” version. Every feature on the site is available to every teacher account, and student access is included with the teacher account that creates it.

Who builds it

Teacher Elf is a one-person project. It is built and maintained by Michael Karén, an IT consultant who works on this in his spare time.

What it costs to run

The site relies on a small set of paid services for hosting, the database, authentication, AI features, translation, image search, and a few smaller pieces. The full subprocessor list lives in the Privacy Policy.

How it stays free

For now, the author absorbs the running costs personally. As long as the site is small enough that those costs are manageable, Teacher Elf will stay free.

What might change

If running costs grow past what one person can comfortably absorb, a few options would be on the table:

1. Daily limits or an optional paid tier on certain features. Anyone who hits a limit could either wait or upgrade.
2. Ads. Some pages could carry ads to cover their share of the running costs.
3. Bring your own AI keys. Sign in with your own AI account and pay your provider directly. The rest of Teacher Elf would stay free.

Core classroom features will stay free even if other things change. If anything does change, existing users will be told before it happens.
